I have seen many new easy to identify hoverflies and bees and wasps this year but I posted about them at the time and will update the lists when I have had all my records checked by experts.
During the long spell of rainy days I have been going through my seasons insect (and some spider) photos. It is extremely time consuming, sometimes taking over 10 hours to process one days shots and that is after already spending at least a couple of hours doing the more obvious photos on that particular day. It will take a long time, probably a few months to get the hoverflies verified and I am still waiting on many difficult bees but neither are likely to result in any new confirmations more than just the ‘Plausible’ designation. I can tell from comments on irecord that one bee appears to have drawn attention as one expert is asking another expert for advice but that could turn out to be something or nothing. The ‘something’ could be big, watch this space.
These below however are new confirmed species for me.

The first is the highlight. It is very rare in Scotland with modern record(s) only from the Borders and none since 1997. NBN Atlas only has 2 records for Scotland, from July and August 1939 at Gretna!
Hawthorn Mining Bee Andrena chrysosceles
1 on 05/06/2018 in nest burrow at Treshnish waterfall

The second is, I think, a first for Argyll, White-footed Furrow Bee Lasioglossum leucopus
1 male on 30/08/2018 at Treshnish waterfall.
It was very small (about 4mm) with a metallic bronze-green sheen especially on the head.

Pale tarsi and metallic green head and thorax

Base-banded so Lasioglossum not Halictus

Round head

The third is new for Argyll, in fact I don’t think there are any west coast records north of the Clyde.
Field Digger Wasp Argogorytes mystaceus
1 male on 28/05/2018 at Ensay Burn bridge

and another of same species: 1 female(?) from 25/06/2018 at Treshnish Old Schoolhouse

The fourth has been recorded on Mull before (3 records).
Field Digger Wasp Mellinus arvensis

the fifth has also been recorded on Mull before (3 records)
